can't read a multi-session CD

platform: HP 9000, hp-ux 11.

NEC CD-ROM

I have burned a straightforward multi-session data CD on WinPC and the HP box can only see the first session. How do i get hp-ux to recognise/read the other sessions? (yes I have seen the FAQ already)

Re: can't read a multi-session CD

In addition to the problems with non-multisession-compatible CDROM drives, the drivers on HP-UX are very old and there has not been significant effort to add additional CD formats. For instance, Joliet and multimedia formats are not useable. Since you are on 11.0 you should install the 3 patches needed for RockRidge native support (which adds the -orr option). That eliminates the need for PFS. There have been a large number of specialized CDROM formats created in the last few years but you'll have to stick with write-at-once formats, RockRidge or ISO 9660 file formats, and note that some popular CD writer programs do not define all the options needed for compatibility.

The mkisofs freeware program (through the numerous options) will give you an idea of just what is missing in popular PC-based CDROM writers. Note that you may also discover older CDROM drives that cannot read bright blue or green CDR media or cannot read CD/RW media. This is a hardware issue and directly related to the age of the CDROM drive.

Re: can't read a multi-session CD

Thank you for that.

However, no results...
The Rock Ridge patches are installed and I know it is a brand spanking new CD-ROM - so no legacy issues there.
Using pfs-mount (after having follwoed the instructions from the link you gave resulted in a retrograde result; filenames appeared in 8:3 format and in capitals.

Re: can't read a multi-session CD

the bizzare thing is the same CD-ROM drive when plugged into a Sun box has no problems at all..the box can read any number of multiple session on a CD.
