can't su to NIS users accounts

server rebooted about 1hr ago.
not sure why yet. OLDsyslog.log had 2 interesting messages b4 reboot.

i noticed the message about the secureservers file in the new syslog.log file

Anything in /etc/shutdown log? Any dumps in /var/adm/crash?

nothing in /var/adm/crash
/etc/shutdownlog says reboot by root! 11:56am

Sounds like someone who was logged in as root issued the reboot command - which does not do a graceful shutdown, thus causing your file corruption.
