Can the gid for group tty be changed?

We are in the process of making our UNIX servers (Solaris and HP-UX) be LDAP clients authenticating users against our Windows domain.

As part of this we are having to clean up our UID and GID usage, to be consistent on all of the UNIX servers that will be LDAP clients.

We've run into a conflict with the GID for the Solaris 'staff' and HP-UX 'tty' groups - they both use GID 10. And naturally there are a lot of Solaris users in group staff, making it a major project all by itself just to change the GID of 'staff'.

Can the gid for the HP-UX group tty be changed?

The only reason I can think of not to change it would be the maintenance issue: patches, new installs, etc. will all require you to repeat the change.
