cannot create volume group

On saturday we had a consultant in to hook up our HP9000 box to our new CX600.
She did a pvcreate and
mkdir /dev/vgtemp
mknod /dev/vgtemp/group c 64 0x030000
HOWEVER....................
when she tried to do a vgcreate, we got the following error message:
Increased the number of physical extents per physical volume to 42495.
vgcreate: Volume group "/dev/vgtemp" could not be created:
VGRA for the disk is too big for the specified parameters. Increase the
extent size or decrease max_PVs/max_LVs and try again.

I'm hoping someone out there has seen this before and can shed some light on it.
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

Please look at the responses to one of my queries on the same topic.

Hope that helps,

Re: cannot create volume group

Youre trying to create a voulme group with a large device. To do so you need to increase the PE size from the def 4MB to 8 or probably 16MB. (vgcreate -s)
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: cannot create volume group

I had the same issue with my scsi to ide array.

It's seen as a single 1TB disk.

I wanted to use the same PE size as on our XP256 which was 4.

But since the disk size was too large i had to increase the PE to 16 then it worked fine.

Cheers

Re: cannot create volume group

Do a "diskinfo" on the disk and see how big it is. Then do the appropriate arithmetic as described in other responses.

How big did you make the LUNs on the CX600?

I think this is a duplicate posting from the same author:
