cannot lock /etc/lvmconf/lvmlock
I thought of mirroring the root disk.
When I started mirroring the first vol1..
it gave the read/write errors on the disk to be mirrored.
It also gave "cannot synchronize data"
So Now i tried lvreducing and removing the disk.
It gives the error
"cannot lock /etc/lvmconf/lvm_lock still trying.."
whenever I run the lvm commands.
please help.

Re: cannot lock /etc/lvmconf/lvmlock
I read the previous post,
I feel the lvreduce command got hung.
I tried killing the process which was wrong,
but the process is still running with the same process ID.
Will it time-out now.
Should I reboot the machine or if I bring it to init 1 level it will be okay.
I did strings on the /etc/lvmtab file and found that the disk I tried mirroring was not existing.
Thanks

Re: cannot lock /etc/lvmconf/lvmlock
Wait for sometime. It should come out with an error/message.
Otherwiswe you have to reboot the server.
Happy waiting

Re: cannot lock /etc/lvmconf/lvmlock
I think, only a reboot will solve your problem.
Thanks

Re: cannot lock /etc/lvmconf/lvmlock
I left the process for around 4hrs.
I think as mentioned above it had a timeout.
I even tried killing the process, luckily there was no need for a reboot.
Thanks
