Re: CDE and NFS

Try "/sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc stop".

Re: CDE and NFS

Shalom,

CDE has nothing to do with NFS configuration.

Depending on configuration, the users home directory may be on NFS.

nfs.core,nfs.client and nfs.server need to be stopped and started in a particular order or NFS could lock up completely.

Re: CDE and NFS

Fauziah,

As Mr. Potter said, NFS had nothing to do with CDE. If you are just trying to get a command-line login, you will have to disable dtlogin.rc, located in /sbin/init.d.

The way to do this is to cd to /etc/rc3.d and move S990dtlogin.rc to s990dtlogin.rc. Notice the Cap-S and small-s. This will disable the CDE startup at boot time.

If you just want a command-line login from CDE, hit the 'Options' button at the login screen and choose 'command-line'. This will shell out of CDE to a command-line. Once you exit the command line, it will restart CDE.

Mark

Re: CDE and NFS

My concern here is I want to stop any NFS service running because the server is going to open to public is a web server so I need to know which app is running the NFS and need to stop it.

Re: CDE and NFS

hi,

To stop all the NFS daemons, you need to do the following:

Stop NFS SERVER networking
/sbin/init.d/nfs.server stop

Stop the NFS CLIENT networking
(which also mounts any remote NFS file systems ...)
/sbin/init.d/nfs.client stop

Stop the NFS CORE networking
/sbin/init.d/nfs.core stop

Normally, these are started automatically when the server is started.

To prevent this you will have to modify the configuration files in /etc/rc.config.d/netconf/

hope this helps!

kind regards

Re: CDE and NFS

If you want to open up your server for web access then you may want to use Bastille to configure a hardened system. Bastille can be downloaded from:
http://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B6849AA
Bastille docs: http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-2395/ch04.html

If you are using Apache then you may also want just use the Protected Systems Web Server:
