CDE not coming up

On Entering user name and password, the system responds with a invalid user message.

A normal telnet works

We had some permissions.

Re: CDE not coming up

looks like your CDE background processes are not running.

# /sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc start

This should start the process.

Re: CDE not coming up

Please have a look in following logfiles:

/$HOME/.dt/errorlog

and

/var/dt/Xerrors

Re: CDE not coming up

Run and correct errors & warnings generated by /usr/contrib/bin/X11/dr_dt

Is root user affected ? is the system trusted and is NIS or NFS mounts involved here ... also anything logged to /var/dt/Xerrors, syslog.log or $HOME/.dt/startlog ?

Re: CDE not coming up

Often a NOT working name resolving caused such problems.

Please check if the name resolving works fine:

# nslookup
# nslookup

Re: CDE not coming up

Some time problem is also
because of the following

1. .profile file

-- Move the .profile to .profile.old and then try to login.

2. If you have disk quota enable and if it is full

3. also check the parameters set i /etc/default/security (if u have done any )
