Re: CDE session logging problem

Did you change something in your dtlogin.rc file?

ll /sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc what's the time stamp?
Anything odd with line 95?
Mine is
. /etc/rc.config

IP address change on your server?
hostname?

Re: CDE session logging problem

Hi,

There seems to be some problem with startup script of dtlogin.

Login as normal root user.
Try to reset the CDE config files using the script.

/sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc reset

Stop and restart
/sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc stop
/sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc start

Enable CDE using
/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e

Thanks,
Srikanth

Re: CDE session logging problem

Check your /etc/rc.comfig.d directory - could be that some rogue file has turned up in there. IIRC /etc/rc.config sources every file in /etc/rc.cnmfig.d, so any rogue file that gets created in that directory with spurious contents can break some startup scripts...

Re: CDE session logging problem

Hi Yacub,

The only other means I can tell you is to
safely copy the copy from a backup or from some other system the file /sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc and then try.

If not

run the startup script with more debug information on and find out which line is giving a problem.

Either run it as
sh -vx /sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc start

or
put the entry of set -xv at the beginning of the rc script to find out what causes the error.

Thanks,
Srikanth

Re: CDE session logging problem

Hi YAQUB,

Sorry for the typo in my previous message. I meant safely copy the corrupted dtlogin.rc script from a tape backup or from another system where it is running successfully.

Re: CDE session logging problem

1) from the above, the file /etc/rc.config.d/desktop changed on 11/20....it shouldn't have unless somebody messed w/ it. Contents of said file *should* be "DESKTOP=CDE"

2) Do an "ls -l" on the following files
a) /sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc
b) /sbin/rc2.d/K100dtlogin.rc and
c) /sbin/rc3.d/S990dtlogin.rc

2b and 2c *should* be links to 2a. Has 2a changed recently? It shouldn't have.

If it has, "view /sbin/dtlogin.rc" and ":95G"

what does that line say? Probably "/64"

Re: CDE session logging problem

Whats in your /etc/rc.config.d/nddconf?
Looking at the error, it looks like maybe theres a line or value thats /64.

/etc/rc.config.d/nddconf
+ TRANSPORT_NAME[0]=ip
+ NDD_NAME[0]=ip_max_bcast_ttl
+ /64
+ NDD_VALUE[0]=128
/sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc[95]: /64: not found.
+ fname=netconf
+ [ -f /etc/rc.config.d/netconf -a netconf != core -a netconf = netconf ]

/etc/rc.config.d/nddconf appears to be in error....look in file after NDD_NAME[0]=....

Re: CDE session logging problem

Sorry for the second post in a row.

My whole /etc/rc.config.d/nddconf has comments prior to all the lines. Its not too unusual for the file to be edited. Personally theres only one case we do, and thats for web servers. But I'm sure theres many reasons why.

I'm kind of suprised that that file is even called. But it looks like its normal for it to do so.
