I ignited this machine with make_tape_recovery
and replaced the HDD 9 GB and installed this
backup on a 18 GB HDD. It worked on another
machine (similar machine) fine, but on this
machine I have a problem.
After the login-screen the screen is frozen.
I have the black screen with mouse cursor
(arrow) or the next, blue CDE-info-screen with
white text and the cursor is a sand clock.
I cant't move the cursor in both cases.
I looked in this forum and checked the
following:
I can access the machine over the network
and I can export the display and start
for example xclock.
I can ping IPaddress and name and nslookup
IPaddress/name has the name results for
localhost, machinename, dnsserver.
I checked with dr_dt and have no errors, but
some warnings. I tried to minimize the
warnings. But there are some missing files.
These files also don't exist on other
machines with the same configuration.
Following files don't exist:
/var/adm/inetd.sec
/usr/dt/bin/xmbind
/usr/dt/bin/suid_exec
I also did the following:
insf -evd framebuf
ioscan -f
When I start from commandline mode with
/usr/bin/X11/X :0
There is the gray screen with the X, but I can
move it only about half a second. Then the
screen is frozen. I can't do Crtl+Shift+Break
I watched /var/dt/Xerrors. After the boot when
there was only the dtlogin screen there were
no errors. After dtlogin there is
Fatal server error:
Unexpected graphics context state on device id 35acda30
In graphinfo there is the following info:
shared library: /opt/graphics/common/lib/libddrw.sl
/opt/graphics/OpenGL/lib/lib35acda30.sl
Do you have any idea what's the problem or how
to find out more, specially how to find out
OpenGL-errors? It's really strange that the
cloning on one machine worked and on this machine not, with the same hardware, only
with another HDD.

SolutionHave you tried changing it or recreating the device files ?
I don't recall seeing these errors before ... where's the opengl errors ?
as to the dr_dt errors you have left: indicative that you don't have the latest CDE patch installed ...
can you telnet into the system during the hang ? what's cpu activity like ?

Re: CDE, X, OpenGL or ignite error?
now I changed the USB-Mouse: the same problem.
I found the error in /var/dt/Xerrors
Unexpected graphics context state on device id 35acda30
and with graphinfo I've seen
shared library
/opt/graphics/OpenGL/lib/lib35acda30.sl
So I thought 35acda30 could have to do with OpenGL ...
I telneted on the machine and top shows
0,0% or 0.1% processor activity.
Next I will try to patch CDE.

Re: CDE, X, OpenGL or ignite error?
did you run a check_patches or swverify \* to check the state of the patch ?
