Re: Change the HP server to other OS

Old HP servers do not support such flavours other than HPUX.

Sorry.
You cannot install any other OS apart from hpux.

Re: Change the HP server to other OS

If its an old HP server then NO, it can only run HP-UX. There is a project by some HP people to port Linux to older HP servers, but its unsupported and you would simply have to try it and see if you can get it to work. I cant find the website now, any one else remember it ?

The OpenPA project

We downloaded a Linux ISO image for a G-class, D-class and a K-class. I think we managed to get them all to boot, but we couldnt get linux up and running and stable. But the new iso images may be a lot more reliable now so I would give it a try.

No, in my point of view is that no matter what OS you use, the important thing is that you should consider the application runing on the box if you want change OS.

I think there's about as much chance of this succeeding as there is of you assigning points.

To my knowledge does NetBSD support the widest variaty of hardware.
How about this?

http://www.netbsd.org/Ports/hp700/

But I cannot tell to what extend thier HP port works since I've never tried it myself.
You don't really have HP hardware standing around at home to play with.

Hi Juno,

You've been asking questions on the forum since January, so I'd say you're being a bit modest saying that you're new - 6 months is a long time in sys admin!

What model of server have you got? You may be able to install PA-RISC Linux on it.

Ollie.
