changing ip-address from C-class to B-class
Hi !
Having exceeded the max. n^ of hosts allowed by C-class addresses we have decided to migrate to B-class addresses.
We have a unix server hp-9000 D310 with o.s. hp-ux 10.20, we actually use it as a NIS server.
Is it right to change only the server's IP-address and then those of the clients (after updating the file /etc/hosts) or we have to check or do something else?
Thanks in advance
Gianni

Re: changing ip-address from C-class to B-class
Gianni,
If I have this right, you want to migrate a Class C NIS Server to a Class B. For now, I'll assume that HP OpenView applications are not installed.
Use set_parms ip_address.
After the Server has been rebooted, you can then begin to migrate the Clients and move their addresses as well.
Hope that Helps!

Re: changing ip-address from C-class to B-class
One Question.
Why Change this Server's IP Address? Why not keep the existing environment in place and add the New Networks?
Also, you might want to consider just changing the Subnet Masks.
One last suggestion, let the Routers route the packets to the New Networks you would add as you migrate to the Class B Network. The changes do not need to be made all at once do they?
