cifsclient and DFS

cifsclient A.02.01

Try and mount a DFS namespace and get this error:

cifsmount //domain1.chelan/ccpud/psoft /cifsmnt/zeus -U psoft -D domain1.chelan
LOC: Netbios session refused
LOC: Netbios session refused

I can cifsmount and access a physical server associated with this DFS namespace.

Any pointers and help would be great.

Thanks

Re: cifsclient and DFS

Shalom,

cifsmount and smbmount are designed to mount Samba/CIFS filesystems.

A normal windows share can be mounted via these utilities.

DFS is not a Samba/CIFS filesystem. Its product that sort of clusters a filesystem and allows it to reside on multiple windows hosts. Note, I'm not a Windows expert.

If you had a normal windows share that pointed to this DFS mountpoint, cifsclient might be able to mount it.

I see nothing in the cifsmount command help page that indicates it knows anything about how to mount a DFS filsystem.

Then again, it may appear like Samba. You might simply have netbios turned off or security on Windows not permitting the mount.

Take a look at the Windows box's Event Log.
