cimserverd not running on 11.23

One of my rx4640's has dropped off the network and at the console its saying that the cimserverd is not running. I have tried to start it with cimserver but this does not work. So its currently in the process of rebooting and in the process its doing a crash dump.

Has anyone come across this issue before and how does one resolve it?

This seems to happen every couple of weeks or so.

can you provide swlist output for the host?

we can try to restarting cimserverd (using cimserver -s)

From the console I attempted to run cimserver and it would not work. Also the server in question dropped off the network and the only way I was able to get it working was to perfrom a reboot:-

o Is CIM Server is running?
Enter ps -ef|grep cimserver If it isnâ t running, then you must start it.

o Is HP WBEM Services installed correctly? enter: swverify B8465BA to check.

o Do you have the essential files? These directories and files are created as a by-product of the HP WBEM Services installation. They should never be moved. The first two files are the SSL certificates files. The next four are the directories for the repository files.

/var/opt/wbem/repository/root

If any of the above files are missing, restore all the repository directories and files from your backup.

If you cannot restore the repository directories, you will have to re-initialize the repository. This will return it to the state it was in when you installed HP WBEM Services, and you will lose any changes made since then.

o Are you trying to process a request when the provider is not registered or enabled? Enter cimprovider -l -s to list the name and status of the registered provider modules and cimprovider -l-m to see the individual providers in that module.

o Exercise the path that requests follow: enter osinfo. This invokes a simple request. It should process and display a response to show you it completed.

o Check the syslog files. HP WBEM Services messages are listed below.

o Are you seeing SSL certificate related messages on a CIM Client request failure? Make sure the remote CIM Server certificate /etc/opt/hp/sslshare/cert.pem is added to the trust store file on the client system.

All of those files are there but one of them has a different name:-

Cimserver is not installed in your server .You have to disable the service .

I'm slightly concerned that this did not get installed at the time I built the server over a couple of years ago, its seems like some of it got installed but not the whole of it.

I have built about 10 other Itanium servers since and have never had an issue like this with these ones.

I take it when I build the next one I need to select it from the software selection screen?

Some components of cimserver might have been installed as dependencies for other products.

Or the install could have failed during initial install and you missed it since this install involves installation of some 2000 depots.

Don't worry I will assign the points like I always do, its just that I'm snowed under with all sorts of nice little issues and I'm the only one looking after the whole of the data centre. Give me 30 mins or so and I will do this!

Just to illustrate that the CIM server stuff is everywhere and used by almost everyone on your system - this example was about iCAP:

Finally it turns out that one of the provider modules needs re-installation.

Conclusion: the real cause of the problem may be somewhere else, not exactly where you think it is ...
