Clariion cx500 alternate path
I have a server connected to EMC 8730 and Clariion cx500 through two brocade switches. Each brocade has a connection from the server, Clariion and 8730 array. The server has 2 FC cards and I have separate zones for 8730 and cx500.
What happens is, I can see the disk on 8730 through both the FC cards but for CX500 I can see the disk through one path and on the second path the lun appears as LUNZ and diskinfo shows "0" bytes for the disk..
Please find the iosan output below.
disk 241 0/10/0/0.2.22.255.0.0.0 disk CLAIMED DEVICE DGC
LUNZ /dev/dsk/c49t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c49t0d0
disk 243 0/10/0/0.2.28.255.0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE DGC
LUNZ /dev/dsk/c51t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c51t0d0
Appreciate your help on this.
Regards,
Franklin.

Re: Clariion cx500 alternate path
hmmm - I don't think I've come accross that issue yet, so I can only do a bit of guessing - sorry!
firstofall, check in the CX
if the lun default and current owners are identical.
then try a dd to check availability (find out if it's a problem with the disk or with diskinfo)
dd if=/dev/rdsk/c51t0d0 of=/dev/null bs=1024 count=10 - does it work or hang?
check dmesg and /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log for PV errors.
If the dd works, but nothing else does, I'd consider wiping the devicefiles and rebooting if downtime is available.
Is Your system current on ioscan/scsi/fc/lvm patches?
Also, I think I should tell You that some powerpath manual I read at ftp.emc.com actually states that pvlink is unsupported with Clariion/CX. (See various rants of mine for the reasons)

yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

Re: Clariion cx500 alternate path
To help set things straight, you can use PV links(alternate links) with the Clariion CX. I have four servers using PV links with the Clariion disks. You can use PV links with Power Path light (not fully licensed version), where Power Path fails over just the Service Processors within the Clariion. However, if you use the full PowerPath package for managing your fail-over paths from the FC adapter to the Clariion, then you cannot use PV links.
On the Clariion, right click on the Clariion serial # and select 'Connectivity Status' and find your server. The 'Fibre Logged In' and 'Registered' show should both show 'yes'. Then expand 'Storage Groups' and right click on your server name, then select 'Connect Hosts'. Under the 'Luns' tab make sure the Luns that are configured for your system show up in the 'Selected Luns' window. Select the 'Hosts' tab and make sure your system is in the listed in the 'Hosts to be Connected' window, select OK. You will probably need to run insf -e again on your system. The LUNS from the Clariion should show up as a disk.
Regards,
Brian

Re: Clariion cx500 alternate path
When I do an fcmsutil /dev/tdX get remote all
I can see that for the HBA which is not able to see the disks has the following
Target N_Port_id is = 0x021c00
Target state = DVS_UNOPENED
but the other hba has the state as ready
Target N_Port_id is = 0x011800
Target state = DVS_READY
I tried manually registering the hba in navisphere and it shows Regsitered as "Yes" but Fibre Logged is "NO".
