Clock runs slow

The time on my 735 losses about 15 minutes ever 6 months. I would like to sync the time with our HP3000 system. Can this be accomplished and if so, what is the best way to do it?

Thanks,
Ron

Re: Clock runs slow

Basically, you would have to set up NTP on your HP 9000 servers. You can check the documentation here : http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90774/B2355-90774.html

Re: Clock runs slow

Ron,

That's pretty typical. You should lood into running NTP (Network Time Protocol). This can be set up through SAM. You can also take a look at the man pages for xntpd, ntpdate, and ntpq.

Re: Clock runs slow

Hi Ron,

What you want to use is the NTP service to sync time.
Have a look at /usr/share/doc/NTP_Primer.txt for info what it is & how to use it.

Re: Clock runs slow

If possible, you could use NTP (xntpd is the process needed for this).
Or a much simpler method, if it is just a workstation, is to sync the clock using rdate and cron. But this last should not be used it the workstation is running databases and the like. rdate will just copy the clock of a remote system (that has the date service active) into its own clock. Like ntpdate, but without the need of a remote xntpd.

But rdate is not something that is default available on the HP systems. So check if you have it and if not it should be findable on the HP site.
Every problem has at least one solution. Only some solutions are harder to find.

Re: Clock runs slow

Are you implying you wish to use your HP3000 as the Time Server for the workstation?
If so, you would need to iobtain hte NTP software for the HP3K system.
Information and download of NTP/iX as an UNSUPPORTED freeware is available
from http://jazz.external.hp.com/src/hp_freeware/ntp

All you need is there.
