Cluster Node Addition, Package reconfiguration

Hi,

we need to add a new node in the existing 3-nodes cluster.

Existing 3-nodes are running on 11.31 FOE where-as the new added which needs to be added in this cluster is running 11.31 DCOE.

should we proceed towards cluster extension with this configuration or should we uninstall the DCOE and install FOE on the new node which needs to be add in the cluster before proceeding for node addition in 3-Nodes cluster ?

Furthermore, Currently NodeA package can failover to NodeB.

Now, we need that after addition of NodeD (4rth Node) in the cluster. NodeA package can also failover to NodeD, currently NodeA package Alternate Node is NodeB only.

In our understanding, we Only need to specify the NodeD details in NodeA's package .conf file, then commodpkg and cmapplypkg. That's it.

Points will definetly rewareded.

Regards

Re: Cluster Node Addition, Package reconfiguration

In addition to the above message; On all 4-nodes A.11.18 is the version of serviceguard and O/s Ver. is 11.31.
the difference is only OE Media. new node to be added is running DCOE where as existing 3-nodes are running FOE.

Our plan is to install the latest QPK/HE/FE packs on all the 4 nodes and proceed to node addition phase.

Kindly comment.

Re: Cluster Node Addition, Package reconfiguration

The version of the OE is irrelevant. As long as you have SG software, which DCOE includes, your fine.

For adding the fourth node and making one of your packages able to fail over to it, that is another thing. Just to mention a few things (not a complete list !):
Add the new node to the cluster
Masking required disk available/seen by the 4th node.
Importing the necessary vg mapfiles.
Creating directory mountpoints.
Copying the .conf (or as some call it the .ascii file) and the pgk.cntl file.
Checking the package for errors command
Applying the package when it is right command.

Please refer to the documentation on Service Guard at docs.hp.com for complete details.
