Compatible hardware for installing HP-UX 11i V2

Hi,

We're having two HP-UX boxes. Their model names are specified as '9000/785'. (Output of uname -m).

Can we install the 'HP-Ux 11i V2' OS on these boxes. If not please let us know the appropriate (cheap & best) machine on which we can install HP-Ux 11i V2.

I'm not sure from that string just what you have - try the model command instead. Then compare with this list:

General criteria:

The box must have a procesor that supports a 64 bit processor.

But thats not all, a D380 supports this but is not on the support list.

As far as the best machine goes, that depends on your needs. A power hungry oracle server will require more hardware than a web server.

If money is an issue, buying a new box might be a problem, just as an option you can go and get a refurbished system from HP, might be cheaper if the model you need is available, or just go with an used box from some third party reseller, but if you can buy a new box, that would be the best solution, you will get a warranty for it, the support for it with the warranty, besides spare parts for boxes outthere on the street are really expensive, just in case the machine breaks.

That's a B class workstation with a PA8600 processor set. I don't believe it's 64 bit capable and it definitely is not on the offical supported list (which says NO risc workstations, only itanium).

You could try installing it, but I don't think it's going to work. For one thing, 11v2 only comes on DVD and I highly doubt you've got a DVD drive in that box.

Yes, this is of PA8500 CPU set, Kernel Width suppot 64 bit.
As you said, this is not in officially supported list.
Can I replace the existing CDROM with DVD and try to install. Pl let me know will there be any issues with that.
I suppose, ss per the HP site, thsi hardware can go upto 11i v1.

To have 11i v2, we have to have Itanium, is n't it, pl clarify.

HP-UX 11i v2 (aka 11.23) will run on both, PA-RISC and Itanium. But not on all PA-RISC systems.

All *supported* systems are listed in the release notes on http://docs.hp.com

Your systm is *not* supported, but you can just try to install it - please let us know the results.

In addition to the other restrictions people have mentioned, certain graphics cards are not supported in the newer releases. The exact list of cards is probably not explicitly published because of more general restrictions (no PA workstations, etc.) I don't have a B2600 here to try, but would be surprised if it worked reasonably with 11i v2.
