Re: Configure 100Mbit / 10Mbit

I have to agree with Torsten - I don't think this card is going to work - not on your system, possibly not even on HP-UX. Where did you get the vglan0 driver? There's no configuration file supplied with HP-UX for that driver. I think what you need to do is get the correct card and driver for your machine.

Re: Configure 100Mbit / 10Mbit

Sergej,

the 10Mbit/s port is just a common standard. The 100VG-AnyLAN port is another standard - it's 100VG-AnyLAN!
take a look:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100VG-AnyLAN

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Configure 100Mbit / 10Mbit

They are two different cards, the 10 Mb port is on the built-in card, which is (obviously) supported on that machine. The 100 Mb port is on the newly installed and unsupported card. That is what is not working.

Re: Configure 100Mbit / 10Mbit

Hi again,
I went through my old mails because I remembered I received in older times a mail from an HP friend:
Salut Victor!

J'ai trouvé un document.

Things to check with 100VG AnyLan card problems
-----------------------------------------------

1/ Make sure the following patches have been installed. These patches are
to
resolve a problem where the card cannot be initialized even though the
setup
is correct.

PHNE_10072 (S700) for EISA 100VG-AnyLAN (HP-UX 9,05)
PHNE_10073 (S700) for EISA 100VG-AnyLAN (HP-UX 10.01)
PHNE_10074 (S800) for EISA 100VG-AnyLAN (HP-UX 10.01)
PHNE_10075 (S700) for EISA 100VG-AnyLAN (HP-UX 10.10)
PHNE_10076 (S800) for EISA 100VG-AnyLAN (HP-UX 10.10)
PHNE_10077 (S700) for EISA 100VG-AnyLAN (HP-UX 10.20)
PHNE_10078 (S800) for EISA 100VG-AnyLAN (HP-UX 10.20)

Le PHNE_10078 a été remplacé par le PHNE_13650. Je te l'ai joint.

2/ Does the customer have any working 100 VG connections (or cards) and
is any pattern introduced by swapping cables, cards, ...

3/ Make sure card was connected to an active HUB before the system was
powered on. The 100VG card when powered on will auto sence the speed of
the
Lan connection supported by the connected HUB. If there is no HUB
connected
then card status will show up as DOWN.

4/ Check that the 100VG-AnyLan software was loaded without errors. Check
swlist
to make sure product is installed and sw log files for errors during
install.

5/ During boot up there should be some indication that the 100VG card was
found
as part of the I/O sub-system scan. Usually something like "EISA
100VGAnyLan controller at select code 0x43" is reported.
Can check via dmesg or syslog
file.

6/ Run /etc/eisa_config and make sure card is configured.

7/ Run lanscan to check card status... is up

8/ Make sure driver is installed in the kernel. The vglan0 driver is
installed
in the kernel as part of the 100VG-AnyLan software install.

lsdev -> check for vg driver. (Major number should be 176)

9/ Check device file (ie /dev/lan1) should be:-

vglan0 drive major no (176) and minor is usually 0x4number>0000

10/ Checkout the patch situation on the system as there are several 100VG
specific patches.

Il y a aussi le QuickInstallation Guide de la carte 100vg. Il y a quelques
points que tu peux tester. Si ca ne marche toujours pas. On se tient au
courant et je viendrais changer soit la carte 100vg ou le system board.

11/ All else fails it could be a H/W problem

Bonne journée et
Meilleures salutations,

Yvan

Re: Configure 100Mbit / 10Mbit

I guess u dont understand my problem!!
Look ...let me explain once again!

I got built in LAN 10Mbit card! Which i was disabled in SAM!
Please forget OLD BUILT IN CARD!
Then i was enable EISA card HWP1990. Configure IP and getaway.
EISA card HWP1990 got two ethernet ports: 10Mbit and 100Mbit!
When the cable from our intranet is connected to 10Mbit ethernet port, connection works just fine! But, when i change cable into 100Mbit ethernet port i DO NOT have connection but LED lamp is ON and it is green!

Any ideas?

Re: Configure 100Mbit / 10Mbit

So you're saying that you actually have 3 ports on this machine: one built-in and two on this vglan card? Having never seen a vglan card, I suppose this might be possible, but it seems unlikely to me.

If it's true that this card actually has two ports, the explanation is most likely that the switch you're connecting to is incapable of communicating with the 100 Mb port and can only talk to the 10 Mb port.

Re: Configure 100Mbit / 10Mbit

The one rule about any of the EISA network cards is that NONE of them would work at 100FD; the most they would support was 100 half-duplex. Set the corresponding port on your switch to 100HD and see if that works. Note: If one end of the connection is hard-set the other must also be hard-set because for auto-negotiate to work (other than by accident) both ends must be set to auto-negotiate.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Configure 100Mbit / 10Mbit

Sergej,

have a look at this document

http://docs.hp.com/en/J2655-90007/index.html

It's similar to your card. This adapter has 2 ports, but only one can be connected at a time. The other is disabled. One is a normal 10MBit/s port, the second is 100VGLAN. Of course, your card is working fine, but it can't speak "normal" 100MBit/s. It's just NOT compatible. An old "proprietary" HP standard, died in the late 90's.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Configure 100Mbit / 10Mbit

Hi! Thank you all!
I found that 10/100 EISA AnyVGLan card is compatible only for 10BT Lan HUB connection! Our intranet has only BT switches!
So the problem has been resolved thanks to all of you!
