Re: configure DNS

Do you want to setup a DNS server on your HPUX 11i machine? or just want to DNS configuration to use other DNS server so that you can resolve the server names , IP addresses? Can you post the content of /etc/nsswitch.conf? What is the difference between hostname and server name in your case?

Re: configure DNS

If you cannot post your nsswitch.conf can you check it yourself that there is a line like this one:

hosts: files [NOTFOUND=continue TRYAGAIN=continue] dns

Re: configure DNS

Shalom,

Stuff to check:
/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/nsswitch.conf

Thats pretty much it. Change the servers in /etc/resolv.conf and see if it helps.

Microsoft DNS servers are known to cause this problem. Microsoft patches are sometimes needed to fix this.
