Configure LAN Manager 2.2

Hi

We have LAN Manager v2.2 for HP-UX installed in a D230 with HP-UX v10.20.
This software is configured to share one filesystem with several machines with Windows.

Now, we have added some users in our domain and we want to configure these users in the LAN Manager.
Now, these new users can't enter into the shared resourse.

I need to know how I can add a new user into the LAN Manager v2.2.

I have not the original software and documentation and too, I cannot find the manuals in any place.

CARLOS
Thanks

Re: Configure LAN Manager 2.2

The best advice in this situation seems to be "upgrade". HP-UX 10.20 is 14 years old and has been unsupported for 5 years; LAN Manager 2.2 is even older. Your D230 should run HP-UX 11.11 (11i v1), which is supported through 2013. LAN Manager I've no idea about - I believe that product is obsolete now, but maybe Samba (CIFS/9000, or "HP CIFS Server) can replace it.

Re: Configure LAN Manager 2.2

Hi Carlos,

I actually wrote the HP-UX training for LMU (LAN Manager 2.2) on HP-UX in 1993. I do not remember anything about it, though, and I do not have any files that old.

It will be difficult for you to find any documentation about it. HP-UX used LMX prior to 1993, and LMU only existed for 2 years before we transitioned to ASU (Advanced Server for UNIX) in 1995. In 2000 we phased out ASU for CIFS/9000 (now called HP CIFS Server).

I believe that there was a user manager that ran on a Windows client for LMU and that you could add users that way. I do not remember if there was a way to add users from the command line, but it seems likely. Microsoft distributed LMU to UNIX vendors, so you could search Microsoft archives for the user manager.

As a final thought, you could look around on your 10.20 box for anything like /lmu/bin/ and see if you can find any commands like "useradd" and then just start trying help to learn the command syntax.

Sorry for the lack of data.
