configure the 28685B transceiver

I'm try set up a lan connection using a 28685B transceiver on a backup server and having a problem because of this error "Error lan1 interface : ifconfig : no such interface"
The operating I'm running is 10.20 , Can someone help me.

Before you try to configure the connection:

What is the output of:

# lanscan (this may indicate the state of the hardware is currently down.)

and

# ioscan -fnkC lan

I've had this problem before. Check the transceiver's jumper settings they should be set like this:

SQE off/disable
Link beat on/enable
Loopback test off/disable
Long cable off/disable
