Configuring Backup to tape device found on another server using RMAN

hello,

I am running HP-UX 11 (64 bits) and Oracle 8.1.7 on my L1000.

I need to setup my RMAN (oracle) to be able to backup to a tape device found on my K250.

I was told that i need to have a media management software to handle RMAN calls to tape devices. I have check and found Networker already installed on my system.

Now on Networker, when i try to define my tape device to be on my K250.... using Name: rd=storage_node_name:/device_path (in my case becomes: rd=gigak:/dev/rmt/0m)...i get the error: "Cannot create storage node; additional enabler(s) required"

Note that, i have done no prior configuration on networker. Is there something that i have missed? has anyone ever tried to use RMAN to backup to tape devices before (on a similar configuration)?

Please help. It is very painful to backup manually everyday. I need to fix it up asap. i cannot afford a tape library yet...

Thanks for all your replies

Regards

Hi,

You should consider a backup software like HP omniback or Veritas netbackup with the oracle integration module. I have not worked on the RMAN configuration, so cannot advise you on that.
