I'd like to tell you exactly what model of machine I'm on, but I don't know what it is! Any command I can use to get that info?
Anyway, if there's any other info you need that would helpful in solving this, I'd be happy to provide it.
Thanks,
Nate

If you're actually running a cable between an
Ethernet port and an RS232 serial port, then
you probably need more help than you can
easily get in a forum like this. You should
probably look for some local person who knows
more basics than you seem to.

Re: Connecting laptop to PA-RISC machine via HyperTerm
If you can provide a model number then maybe we can start from there. There should be some sort of model number or part number on the machine.

Re: Connecting laptop to PA-RISC machine via HyperTerm
You are very correct! However, to put your mind a little at easy, after you mentioned it, I did realize the rediculousness of that configuration. So I guess I've got two options. 1. Network my laptop to the machine via crossover ethernet, or 2. find a serial cable to go from the serial port on my laptop to the consol port on the server. Correct?
As far as the model goes, all I can see is it's a Visualize B180L. I apologize for my ignorance, just trying to learn my new job without looking like a complete idiot. :-) (Well, to my coworkers anyway)

Re: Connecting laptop to PA-RISC machine via HyperTerm
I've done this before to D class boxes.
The model really doesn't matter. You connect the null model to the console port and then use the hyperterminal settings in the links above.
procomm plus, though it actually costs money is a little more flexible.

I don't need any but others before me provided solutions and deserve to be rewarded accordingly.
