We use a local console on our L1000. I logged into it today and it stopped half-way through the logon process right after the "Copyright 1997 Isogon Corp. line. I then ran the command:
ps -ef | grep console
and it showed: cat /etc/copyright; which is correct, but it shouldn't get hung there. I did something else and when I turned back to the console I had the prompt.
I then attempted to access sam to see what would happen and it started laoding the sam screen. It has been about 30 minutes and it is still lsowly loading the screen.
I checked the system with top from another terminal, and it shows the sam process in a sleep state:
LOAD USER NICE SYS IDLE BLOCK SWAIT INTR SSYS
0.33 0.4% 0.0% 0.8% 98.8% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0%
Memory: 63716K (13348K) real, 117432K (76284K) virtual, 19840K free Page# 1/13
TTY PID USERNAME PRI NI SIZE RES STATE TIME %WCPU %CPU COMMAND
pts/tc 21772 susan 154 20 1740K 800K sleep 0:05 3.29 3.29 pro
? 28 root 152 20 0K 0K run 5:58 1.21 1.20 vxfsd
tty0p0 24085 root 157 20 1716K 2248K sleep 0:00 0.51 0.51 samx
As can be seen from the screen print the system load is low and very little is going on.
SAM loads normally from any other session.
The only unusual thing that I have done recently was a shutdown from a terminal other r than the console last week, but that shouldn't have created any issues.
Maybe a problem with the connecting cable?
Thanks
Richard Darling
