Create oracle 7.3.4 database failed on rp7410 server

Hi All,

This problem is so strange. That I attempt to install oracle 7.3.4 on rp7410 server (8*cpu, 16G*memory), then create a new instance, but I still encounter this error ORA-00600 [17059] while I run catalog.sql & catproc.sql & catrep.sql.

At meanwhile, I establish other reference environment on J2240 workstation also install HP-UX11i and oracle 7.3.4, then create a new instance and successful.

Please watch this... I install HP-UX 11i and oracle 7.3.4 on both server/workstation without applied other patchset which recommended by ORACLE document.

All right.

Why Oracle 7.3.4, I can only guess.

If Oracle hasn't certified it on 11.11(11i), stop, do not pass go do not try it. Even if you get the install to work, you'll get nowhere.


Assuming you knew that, do not install Oracle without all required OS patches. If there isn't a patch list on metalink.oracle.com then check the certification matrix.

You are running a 64 bit OS and if the Oracle isn't designed to run on such a platform, once again stop.

ORA-0600 is a generic error which means the database encountered an error, but really has no idea what the heck it is.

In the past when we encountered it, it was due to not following the documentation Oracle has on how to install. No detail is too small to screw this up.

Oracle also has undocumented tricks you need to know about to get certain products to install and run properly on HP-UX.

Hi,
on 11i oracle 7.3.4 in not officially supported, neither by HP nor by Oracle.

But it works.

You should not install it, but better copy it from a funnctional installation, better from 11.00.


I did many clone of 11.00 server to 11.i server, with running SAP 3.1i/Oracle 7.3.4, and they worked.

I found problem in the allocation of share memory and semaphores, so check:
- if you are using shm_magic executable
- if you were using memory windows
- if compiles did it all right

In metalink there are references to bugs bugs 1115424 or 1210242, but for other ports.

Hi,
Oracle 7.3.4 is not yet supported on 11i it is not at all recommended by HP as well as Oracle so in this my suggestion will be not to install Oracle 7.3.4 in 11i you can try it out will 11.0.
