creating 4 Virtual servers on RX7640
I have one hard partition RX7640 server and wants to create 4 virtual servers on the rx7640. One virtual server would hold HP Unix, 2 virtual servers would hold Windows each, the last one would hold linux.
Please tell me the different products I have to purchase before implementing this solution in an HP SAN Data Centre environment and also the order by which those products would be installed and configured.
Regards,
Berenger

Re: creating 4 Virtual servers on RX7640
You need HP-UX itself, I'd recommend 11.31.
You need HPVM HP Virtual Machine the software to runt he VM.
Whether you pay or not for Linux depends on what distribution you choose. You must use Itanium/IA64/IPF certified distribution.
Of course you need Windows licensing.
I recommend hardware and software support in case you have any issues in that area.

Re: creating 4 Virtual servers on RX7640
enough cpu, ram and storage to support all environments
I would suggest hpux 11.31 VOE for the VM Host. Includes Mirror/UX, IVM, Online JFS,

Re: creating 4 Virtual servers on RX7640
There are two things when you say Virtual server.
you can either opt for Virtual Partitions or Virtual Machine.
for either of the above, as suggested HPUX 11iv3 is the better option for hosting.

Re: creating 4 Virtual servers on RX7640
Doesn't IVM require or need HP-UX though as it resides on top of an 11.23/11.31 OS? For which he needs VSOE release of 11.31 or EOE+IVM on 11.23?
Another option is perhaps run Linux as your Virtualizer if KVM support is now available on Linux IA64.

Re: creating 4 Virtual servers on RX7640
only one answer - HP Integrity Virtual Machines.!
But Note : the Host OS can be a HP-UX only!
the guests can be ux, windows or Linux.

Re: creating 4 Virtual servers on RX7640
I have one hard partition RX7640 server and wants to create 4 virtual servers on the rx7640.
This is pssible with HP Integrity virtual Machine.
1. Load the HP-UX ( recommended 11.31 ),then HPVM host software on hardpartition.
2. Then create 4 Integrity vortual Machines allocate memory and CPU as per the requirement.
3. Purchase Unix, Windows, Linix each machine should have OS license
4. Load the OS on each VM
Enjoy...
You may use Glance and other performance/resource management products on host machines for managing this properly.
Please note that, it is recommended you should not load any other applications on the host machine.
enjoy !!!
