Conversion of a SAN boot disk into a VM
The scenario involves an Integrity server running 11.23 which currently boots from a EVA SAN disk, with the internal drive not in use.
Would it be feasible to install the internal disk as a HP-UX VM server and then create a VM instance that would use the above SAN disk as it's boot device? Would the original system instance remain (more or less) intact?

Re: Conversion of a SAN boot disk into a VM
I would suggest Ignite.
It is the right tool for this job.

Re: Conversion of a SAN boot disk into a VM
not sure if its available in 11.23, but I used (Dynamic Root Disk) - drd clone to achieve this in 11.31, and it worked like a dream. - and you can do it online.
here's my check list:
drd clone -t
drd mount
check that it reflects the same filesystems
drd unmount
"drd activate"to make the OS boot from the cloned new LUN
check boot path with setboot
reboot
hope that helps
regards

Re: Conversion of a SAN boot disk into a VM
I'm not familiar with DRD, and I'm not sure if it is the correct direction. I'm not looking to clone the SAN drive onto the internal.
I want to install a brand new O/S (+VM support) on the internal drive, define a new VM instance that uses the SAN boot disk.
Since an O/S and boot partition are already installed on this drive (while an nPar), would this system boot as a VM?

Re: Conversion of a SAN boot disk into a VM
http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=DynRootDisk
details here that you can use DRD with nPar and vPar/Integrity VMs.
I think Ignite(as SEP recommends) or DRD are your best ways forward.
hope that helps
