Data Migration which includes consolidation of data

Hi All

We are about to start a Data Migration project which includes consolidation of data from various data centre's into one data centre.

So any suggestions and Idea of how to approach the problem would be helpful. Please let me If there are any Technical Paper or books that would be of help.

The HP and Oracle web sites have many whitepapers on this subject. I'm sure there are several books out there also. As you suggest, I think it would be an excellent idea to peruse that data first.
This will give you the tools to ask the critical questions, make the right inventories.
As the question stands, we can only speculate and mumble.

What OS (old, new)
What Platform and Storage (old, new (still open I hope)
If target is selected then by who and how? Surely that was well argumented and documented?
What geographical requirement (network, latency, replication),

We just recently consolidated two servers here where many users had logins on both.

The method we choose was to pick one primary machine and for users on both machines, their directory from that machine became their home directory.

The directory from the other machine was sublinked below this.

There are lot of data Coming from South America and different parts of the world

SAN EMC is used predominantly.
