Date & Time in L Class
We had implemented NTP pointing to one server which is running in Stratum III. Around 8 servers got synchronised with the Stratum III server. But the above said server is not getting synchronised and it exists from the ntp saying
Jun 24 20:12:22 alpha2 xntpd[885]: synchronized to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, stratum=4
Jun 24 20:12:22 alpha2 xntpd[885]: time error -2996.333657 is way too large (set
clock manually)
Would U please suggest a solution for the above said problem.

Re: Date & Time in L Class
Your problem is, that the time difference is more than 1000 seconds between the two server. In that case you have to set the time manualy

Re: Date & Time in L Class
Does the time of your server being advanced gradually? if this is the case then you better ask HP to check the hardware.
Do you have any cron jobs under root that would touch the date time function?
Philip.

Re: Date & Time in L Class
The quality of a forum depends always on the participants. I agree with you, that it's pretty helpful when the one who asked the question ranks the answers. But there is no way to 'force' them. It would be nice if they understand how important it is for others, if they provide feedback about the quality of the answers
Suresh,
Did you set the time manually and start the ntp after that? Did it run after you syncronized the time manually or did it fail with another error message?

Re: Date & Time in L Class
Use the kernel parameter DST to set Daylight savings time policy, and TIMEZONE to set minutes West of Greenwich.
Cheers!
