Re: dbc_max_pct and bdf, ls
While you don't indicate how much physical memory you have, 15% used for a buffer cache will still not cause this behavior. A 'sync()' is automatically done when 'bdf' runs, but the delay in flushing modified data is not this vast.
Since your post's subject mentinos 'ls' too, I would suspect that you have a stale NFS handle or (equally bad) have mounted a CDROM using the old 'pfs_mount'. You are probably looking at a reboot.
I would also examine '/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log' for any evidence of anomolies.
Regards!

Re: dbc_max_pct and bdf, ls
You may experience some delays on an extremely busy (i/o wise) system (essentially unrelated to the size of the buffer cache) but these delays are on the order of a few tens of seconds.

SOunds like a NFS issue.
