We are running HP-UX 11.00 on a C3600 workstation and are using CDE.
When I start 'dtterm' (either from the command line or desktop pannel) every now and then (appr 1 out of 10) it comes up with a dead window - which I just can kill. This doesn't happen with 'xterm' nor 'hpterm' though.
Does someone have a clue what's going on or can tell where to look for a solution?
Thank's,
Michael

Solution
I'd check your syslog.log, $HOME/.dt/errorlog and /var/dt/Xerrors, get the latest CDE, Xserver pacthes installed and see if the problem continues/ what errors if any are trapped.
Couldn't be ptty's etc running out ? Doesn't explain why pterm or xterm are OK ?
Does Dtaction dtterm from the command line also display the problem ? How long does it last ie if a dtterm is unresponsive, what happens if you start another ... is this too affected ?

Re: dead window with dtterm
This is a known problem that the lab is working on. JAGad29905 discusses this defect in detail. The underlying problem is a STREAMS issue which is being investigated. Look for a fix in the next CDE periodic patch for 11.00.
