Re: detail of pvdisplay and lvdisplay

hi,

refer to this doc on LVM commands:

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-60127/lvm.7.html

for vgdisplay:

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-60127/vgdisplay.1M.html

for pvdisplay:

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-60127/pvdisplay.1M.html

"man pvdisplay" and "man vgdisplay" will give u similar reply.

Re: detail of pvdisplay and lvdisplay

Hi,

PE = Physical Extent

It is the minimum unit in which the disk has been divided into.

MAX_PV is the Maximum no. of Physical Volumes allowed in that Volume group. This can be defined at the time of creating the VG.

Free PV

This paratemeter should be Free PE instead and is the no. of Free Physical extents on the disk. FreePE multiplied by the PE size will give you the total free space on the disk.

Re: detail of pvdisplay and lvdisplay

Hello,

As the name suggests, pvdisplay is used get information about Physical Volumes and vgdisplay is used for getting "Volume Group" information.

# man lvdiaplay and vgdisplay should give information about PE and PV.

Not just an itrc user but an operating system.

For an overview of LVM, this document is useful.
