I'd like to konw a little more about the vxfsd of HP-UX LVM. Who can help and give a short explanation? Thanks.

Re: Details about vxfsd

The 'vxfsd' is the daemon used for the journaled file systems. When it is using CPU, it would be assumed that it is logging changes to the file systems so that they can be recovered in case of a crash. This daemon would be used, when you are making changes to filesystems and running things like 'fsck'

Re: Details about vxfsd

vxfsd is the daemon for the hpux file system JFS(Journaled file system) based on the vertias software.

vxfs has better features over hfs file systems.

Earlier the vxfsd was split and there were each daemon for file system sync, flush, etc.
Now with new releases the single process vxfsd implements everything.

Re: Details about vxfsd

I crosschecked with our Solaris boxes that use the Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM), and are licensed to the Veriats Foundation Suite that includes the Veritas Filesystem (VxFS).
On these there is no vxfsd running.
So I guess it must be an adaptation of HP for their HP-UX.
However, if you want to know more about the VxFS I'd suggest to have a look at http://support.veritas.com/
You can download all the documentation, whitepapers of their products for free.
