Device files for DDS tapes
When making device files for DDS tapes (mksf) there is a parameter (-b bpi) to choose the density. You can choose, for example:
- BEST (highest density available, including data compression)
- DDS2C (DDS2 DAT tape cartridge compressed).
Is there any difference between these two options?
I've made several tests writing to a DDS3 tape, using these options and the results have been exactly the same: the same amount of information stored and the same compression ratio achieved.

Re: Device files for DDS tapes

Re: Device files for DDS tapes
Our goal is not to write DDS3 tapes in a supposed DDS2 format. The question arises from historical reasons. So far we had DDS2 units, so we used DDS2C density.
Now we have DDS3 units, so we wonder whether there is any difference with BEST density.
According to our tests, it seems there isn't.
Thanks for your answers anyway.
