df: cannot determine file system statistics

N4000 HP-UX 11.0, automounted file systems. When I do a "df" on any automounted file system I get "df: cannot determine file system statistics". "bdf" and "du" commands run fine. Any ideas?
If you can focus your eyes far and straight enough ahead of yourself, you can see the back of your head.
