difference in vmunix between 2 nodes in a cluster

We have 2 nodes running HP-UX 11.23 and ServiceGuard A.11.17.00.

I noticed today that /stand/vmunix is different on each system (37205544 MB versus 27025088 MB).

Obviously we want these two to be the same as one is the backup node for the other.

We've been installing packages (Security containment, etc.) and we thought we were consistent on both nodes.

Is there anyway to find out what is different about these 2 vmunix?

Is there a good way to get these 2 nodes back into synch?

Thanks!

37205544 MB - What a huge kernel ;-)

Just run

what /stand/vmunix and compare (diff) - perhaps different modules loaded and different patch levels applied.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: difference in vmunix between 2 nodes in a cluster

did the "what" on both vmunix, wrote to 2 files and diffed the 2 files - but, no differences showed up

I would compare the kconfig -a outputs.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: difference in vmunix between 2 nodes in a cluster

Quite a few thins show up doing the kconfig -a, but I'm not sure what they might mean (whether they point to any specific package or depot that might be loaded on one and not the other):

Re: difference in vmunix between 2 nodes in a cluster

By the way, we only have one package running in the cluster and it operates fine on either node (we switch it every month to run on the opposite node).

Re: difference in vmunix between 2 nodes in a cluster

I had you run kconfig -a so that you would get the drivers/modules and tunables in one go. If I can infer from your previous posting that no differences were found in the tunables then we can concentrate on the drivers/modules. Compare the outputs of "kcmodule -a".
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: difference in vmunix between 2 nodes in a cluster

One more thing that may suggest something - the vmunix in /stand/backup on both nodes looks to be identical (same size, same day anyway).

Re: difference in vmunix between 2 nodes in a cluster

per HP engineers this is "normal" and we shouldn't have to do anything (so we're not doing anything at this time).
