Different HP-UX versions feasible on nodes belonging to same cluster?

Hi,

I was asked this by our planners.

Intuitively I answered, I couldn't believe HP's SG would work with cluster nodes of which one part ran 11.11 while the other part ran 11.00.

I know that various Linux clustering concepts (e.g. Heartbeat, DRBD) are more tolerant about their nodes' kernel and OS release.

Re: Different HP-UX versions feasible on nodes belonging to same cluster?

Serviceguard clusters can contain nodes running both HP-UX 11.0 and 11i (11.11) as long as all nodes are running the same revision of Serviceguard. This applies to all Serviceguard versions that run on both HP-UX 11.0 and 11i (currently A.11.14 only).

Oh, that sounds good.

Thanks Melvyn for the rapid answer.

Re: Different HP-UX versions feasible on nodes belonging to same cluster?

I wouldn't recommend this except as part of a rolling upgrade. It is challenging enough to keep nodes in the cluster consistent (HP Cluster Consistency Check Service was developed to help with this issue), without the added differences with different releases. Just because it is possible doesn't make it a good idea to do it.
