2 VM Guests, different subnets, and one can't talk out. Do I need,...
a) Different vswitch for different subnets, and tie both switches to the same LAN card?
b) Different vswitch for different subnets, each tied to its own lan card on the same subnet?
c) Something else?
We are using VLANs on the physical network, and connecting hosts to dual network VLANs is verboten! Any pointers?

SolutionWhat I have is a different vswitch's for each nic that is on a different vlan.
so for example, I have
physical vlan1(subnet 172.x.x.x) - nics 1 and 2 that form vswitch-por
physical vlan2 (subnet 192.168.x.x) - nics 3 and 4 that form vswitch-gest
so then I map 2 virtual nics to each guest, one on each vlan/subnet

We use VM guests in different VLAN on the same vswitch, by setting the vlan tag on the vswitch port for each vm with hpvmnet -S vswitchname -u portid:

I have tried this but not had any luck. Does the VLAN ID need to match the actual VLAN ID on the physical network or can it be any number?
Do the VM Guests still have the same Gateway as the physical Servers?

The VLAN id on your physical network only matters if you are using trunking. By trunking, I mean, running different subnets on the same physical interface. I am nopt familiar with VMs running on HPUX boxes but considering you mentioned 2 different switches, I am assuming you are using 2 separate physical ports in which case VLAN ID (or tag) should not make a difference. But if you can post a drawing or verbally describe your physical LAN connections and any VLAN configurations on the HPUX side and the switch side, it might help us understand your picture better and offer more meaningful answers.
