Disk drives not connected.

Hi,

I'm having a small problem. I've connect a HP storage enclosure (A3311A) to the machine. Initially i had 4 SCSI disk drives and I put them all on one side and terminated the other 2 ends with a scsi terminator. I wanted to add two more disk drives and i put them on the side 2. when i do a ioscan -C disk the new disks dont show up.

This is what i did, first i set the scsi id's of the new disks to values that dont already exists. Then I made connection from the "side1 top to machine", "side1 bottom to side2 top", "side2 bottom terminated with a terminator", side2 power cord to the power supply. did i do somthing wrong???

Thanks so much,
Sri

Re: Disk drives not connected.

Sounds correct to me. You could double check that the cables are tightly connected though.

If that doesn't work, you could check that side 2 is OK by connecting that to the server instead of side 1. If only two disks show up then suspect your side 1 to side 2 cable.

Re: Disk drives not connected.

One other thought, Jamaica enclosures can take both FWD and SE SCSI disks but you can't have both on the same bus. You are only using one type are you?

John, I'm doing that right now. also I my disks are all of type.

Re: Disk drives not connected.

You will have to recycle the power on the Jamaica cab to reset the bus and pick up the newly set scsi ids, of course this will also require booting the server.

Yes, I rebooted the server when i added the new disks.

Thanks

Re: Disk drives not connected.

Hi,

I connected just the side2 with one disk and when i boot, it gives me following message.

Booting......
Retrying HOT SWAP disk....

Retrying HOT SWAP disk....

Retrying HOT SWAP disk....

over and over again.

Could anyone tell me what is wrong.

Thanks so much,
Sri

Re: Disk drives not connected.

Is your problem fixed or not ? if not the SCSI ids on each side of the Jamaica may be the same hence you cant see the new disks, check the scsi settings on the back of the Jamaica and make sure theyre all unique.

Re: Disk drives not connected.

What are the SCSI ID's? Could be that they are out of range for the driver/software you are using.

The SCSI ids on each side of the Jamaica may be the same hence you cant see the new disks (and getting these errors), check the scsi settings on the back of the Jamaica (both sides) and make sure theyre all unique.
