Hi,

HP-UX and vPars are technologies exclusive to the Integrity server family. You cannot install HP-UX or vPars on a dl860 server.

@Dave

If not vPars.....then how about VM host and VM guests in it?

Re: dl860 multi OS

Integrity Virtual Machines only runs on Integrity servers, and the Integrity VM host requires HP-UX.  So the same answer applies - if the server cannot run HP-UX it cannot run Integrity VM.

Re: dl860 multi OS

it is "HP Integrity BL860c i2 Server Blade" to be exact

Re: dl860 multi OS

That's a different story.  The BL860 can run HP-UX 11iv3.

Re: dl860 multi OS

Ah. You kept using the term *DL* which is the naming scheme for Proliant servers.

A bl860c i2 server blade can run Integrity VM. Depending on which version of Integrity VM you install will determine whether you can run a Linux VM guest or not. The last version to support Linux VMs was v4.2.5. The latest version of Integrity VM (4.3) only supports HP-UX and OpenVMS guests.

The bl860c i2 blade cannot run the current version of vPars. Our next version of vPars (version 6) will allow vPars to run on the blade. However, the only supported OS to run inside a vPars v6 partition will be HP-UX, so you will not be able to run Linux in a vPars v6 partition.

If Linux is a requirement your best bet would be to run Integrity VM v4.2.5. For more information you can check the vPars and Integrity VM release notes at:

http://www.hp.com/go/virtualization-manuals

Hope this helps,

Dave

Re: dl860 multi OS

ok. So...will come back to my original question.

can we use this hardware to install hpux and linux as well?

both together..can the two OS exist as separate virtual machines? in HP Integrity BL860c i2 Server Blade ?

Re:BL860multi OS

Thanks Dave. Let me understand it better now

1)Integrity VM 4.3 and above support only hpux and OpenVMS guests. so no linux OS if we use VM 4.3?
Linix vm guest is possible only with VM v4.2.5

2)The bl860c i2 blade cannot run the current version of vPars. Our next version of vPars (version 6) will allow vPars to run on the blade.
So if we need to create vPars in BL860,,their version should be 6..not less than that.
In any case we can create only a hpux vPar..not any other OS vPar. I understood this.

3)If Linux is a requirement your best bet would be to run Integrity VM v4.2.5.

I hope this VM v4.2.5 wont hinder our attempt to create vm guests comprising of both linux and hpux OS(in a VM host)

If you check the Integrity VM 4.2.5 Release Notes, chapter 11 has several tables of supported Guest OS types:

http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02545643/c02545643.pdf

11.4 HP-UX Guest Support

11.5 Windows and Linux Guest Support

The Release Notes detail exactly which HP-UX OS guests are supported and which Linux OS guests are supported.  Yes, you can run both guest types on the same HPVM 4.2.5 Host.
