We recently experienced some disk failures on our box which generated errors in dmesg/syslog.
The faulty disk has been replaced and we are in the process of rebuilding the filesystems but now when we run dmesg it gives the following message :
# dmesg
Jul 29 16:53
Can't get kernel namelist
Checked /var/adm/messages and it shows the same message as well.
syslog looks clean - what does the dmesg message mean?
Thanks.

Re: dmesg problem - "cant get kernel namelist"
Guess you have a stripped kernel which was generated with LDOPTS="-s" set and will not then do some things
Make sure it is unset and regenerate kernel

Re: dmesg problem - "cant get kernel namelist"
During the filessytem rebuild all the affected VGs were deactivated and this gave rise to the weird dmesg message - any ideas why?
Once the VGs were activated then the namelist message was no longer in dmesg.
