DNS Change - Reboot ?

My network Eng. had me change my

/etc/resolv.conf file with a different IP
address.

Do I have to reboot for this to take affect?
Or can I do something else?

I don't want to affect folks on the system.

Re: DNS Change - Reboot ?

Hi Laurie,

Nope - resolv.conf changes are immediate & no further action should be required.
To check run nslookup w/o a name or IP then give it a name to resolve & see where it resolves from.

Laurie

No reboot is necessary, next time you do an nslookup on the hostname/alias or IP Address it will read the /etc/resolv.conf file to get the preferences.
