Re: Document: "When Good Disks go Bad ..."

hi,

finally got a chance to review this.

- The information is technically correct?
10

- The information presented helps my understanding of LVM?
10

- I will be/have been able to use the procedures provided?
10

- The proceedures were easy to follow?
10

- Would you recommend that others read this paper? (Why or why not)
most definitely, no need to save any disk failure related KB, just have to refer to this pdf.

- Are there any additional LVM topics for which you would like more information?
u have cover about most of the aspects.

well done.

regards.

Re: Document: "When Good Disks go Bad ..."

- The information is technically correct?
10 - It certainly looks good to me, although I'd rather not be in a situation to have to test it.

- The information presented helps my understanding of LVM?
10 - It does, I've got it close to hand now so that I can refer to it if need be.
- I will be/have been able to use the proceedures provided?
10 - Yes, although it is only out root disks that will ever need this sort of attention now.
- The proceedures were easy to follow?
10 - Yes, they were. This is something that I'm always concerned about getting wrong. Now I have a handy reference covering pretty much all I'll ever need to know in this area.

Please give us your Thoughts:
- Would you recommend that others read this paper? (Why or why not)
Yes, although we have a SAN now so the likelihood of this sort of failure has reduced somewhat.
- Are there any additional LVM topics for which you would like more information?

I can't think of any right now.

Re: Document: "When Good Disks go Bad ..."

10/10/10/10 :)

found new command (pvchange -a N) - great!

I'd recommend to lvchange -s y before lvextend -m 1 :))

no more I could add, I will definitely keep the document in close range, even though everyone here is expected to do these tasks by heart :)
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

Re: Document: "When Good Disks go Bad ..."

The paper is good. Have you considered getting it published elsewhere, such as the Knowledge Base or Knowledge Trees?

The traffic on docs.hp.com is generally not those who are troubleshooting but looking for manuals, man pages, release notes, installation notes, etc. It might be the last place people look for this type of document.

Re: Document: "When Good Disks go Bad ..."

Hi,

I think this white paper is very useful.
It is easy to follow.
I found particularly interesting the section 'Recognizing a failing disk' because very often it is the step most difficult. A guideline to check it I think it is great, so:

- The information is technically correct?
10

- The information presented helps my understanding of LVM?
9

- I will be/have been able to use the proceedures provided?
10

- The proceedures were easy to follow?
10

Thanks for your efforts!

Best regards,
Fabio
