Doubt regarding Application Upgrade on HP-UX systems managed by ServiceGuard

We plan to have a two node HP-UX cluster system managed by HP ServiceGuard. We are going to have Oracle 10G installed on the systems.

I need to now plan a strategy for application upgrade with minimum downtime from the front end. Can someone please guide me for the same.

Re: Doubt regarding Application Upgrade on HP-UX systems managed by ServiceGuard

Shalom,

It the application is clustered, fail over the application to the second node.

Conduct the upgrade, minus any steps that could corrupt the data which is not available on node 1 anyway.

if no data conversion is involved, you should be able to fail the application over to the upgraded node and then upgrade node 2.

If as is the case with say oracle, you'll need to schedule downtime for hte data upgrade steps, which are laid out in the applicaiton manual.

The process is loosely referred to as a rolling upgrade. Depending on the application and data conversion needs it can be completed with little or no downtime.

Now why don't you share a little more and provide some specifics so that a more detailed plan can be presented.
