during ioscan devices under specific target do not appear

When doing an ioscan I do not see any of my c#t14d# disks. I should be seeing 4 disks with target 14. When I do a pvdisplay of the disks they show up as having vg,lv and data on them. Any ideas. By the way these are EMC disks.

Thanks in advance.

Re: during ioscan devices under specific target do not appear

Hi,

The best to find devices is from your
kernel. In most cases an 'ioscan -fn'
will do the job, BUT it actually goes
and tries to discover and sometimes
will reset SCSI devices. My advice is
use what is in the kernel already.
'ioscan -fnkC disk' will find disks
'ioscan -fnkC tape' will find tape drives.

Re: during ioscan devices under specific target do not appear

If you have too many disks on the EMC that are used by the system, during the reboots, the ioscan will go into scan mode and will not report the disks.

So, do an ioscan -f first. Make sure it completes. Check the output and search for SCAN.If you don't find it in the output, then do ioscan -fnC disk to see if you can be able to see the output.

You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try

The disks do not show up during an ioscan -fnC.

Re: during ioscan devices under specific target do not appear

Nancy,

You mean the disks don't show up when you do a "ioscan -fnC disk"?

Can you provide us a list of the /dev/dsk and /dev/rdsk directories for the missing disks, and also a full ioscan "ioscan -fn"? This will maybe give us a clue.

BTW, what os are you running, and do you have the latest patches installed?

Re: during ioscan devices under specific target do not appear

The problem has been fixed. Patch PHKL_24004 with dependent patch PHKL_24187 take care of the problem. When the EMC devices were assigned a lun was skipped. If this occurs the
the devices are available but do not show up in an ioscan. The patches mentioned take care of the skipped lun problem.

Thanks for all the input.

Re: during ioscan devices under specific target do not appear

Nancy,

Did you try "'sympd""
command for listing the
devices? I normally use
the output of this command
to assign luns to the VG's.

Yeah, that problem with
the skipping lun hit us once,
though it was on a different
disk model (amdahl).

Take it easy.
