EMC Clarion disks on HPUX 11iV2

Hi,
SAN Administrator is adding disks to one of our new HPUX rp4440 Server. But we are seeing following in ioscan output.

I have removed internal disk info from this output.
I have already executed ioscan -fnc & insf -e
but I am unable to see the correct devices.

We have installed following:
# swlist | grep -i navisphere
NAVIAGENT 6.19.4.7.0 Navisphere Disk Array Management Tool (AGENT)
NAVICLI 6.19.4.7.0 Navisphere Disk Array Management Tool (CLI)

This server has 2 FC Techyon Cards.
Please suggest
Thanks in advance for your solution. This problem we are facing on other 2 servers also.

Re: EMC Clarion disks on HPUX 11iV2

Shalom,

Few things to understand about SAN disks.

When the administrator adds the, recognizing them without a system boot is not supported.

Systems rarely if ever recognize space increases on LUNS without a new LUN being built and presented to the system. It used to be HP storage could get around these rules but not on the EVA-4000 we just bought.

You can try a few things.

insf -C disk

ioscan

See how that goes.

Re: EMC Clarion disks on HPUX 11iV2

Hi,
I was able to rectify the issue, but after I created the Filesystems on the disks. they got changed means all controllers are now changed.
Initially they were C4, C5, C6, C7

And now I can see C8, C9, C10,C11.

I am not sure how it has changed, is there a way in HPUX we can do persistent binding. I do not know if an administrator has to do persistent binding. I think it is automatically taken care by HPUX. Please suggest some one. Your urgent help will be appriciated.

Re: EMC Clarion disks on HPUX 11iV2

Shalom,

Some of our large clients use EMC Powerpath. That seems to get around these issues.

Also, make sure a disk is assigned to LUN0, sometimes HP-UX picks up the disk array, thinks its a disk and gets confused. This is alleviated by having the san admin assign a LUN 0

Re: EMC Clarion disks on HPUX 11iV2

You dont need a reboot of the server to add LUNs.

I think the problem you are facing is not adding the disks to the server, but connecting the server to the SAN and configuring the Array to recognize that server.

you can see all your servers if you have access to array thru GUI or CLI

Re: EMC Clarion disks on HPUX 11iV2

Yes I am able to see all the other server and even this server and it shows me same disks in Navispher.
One more thing it shows me in ioscan one control with 1 disk that c8t0d0, and this disk is of 0KB and in ioscan it also shows me C10 (which has 5 disks {d0--d4} but all with NO_HW, and all are 0kb)

while when I check INQ it shows me just opposite under "C8" means controller 8 has got 5 disks but controller 10 has got 1 disk only.
I am not understanding why it is happening. Can any body also tell me how to set trespath in HPUX in which file I can modify.
