EMS Configuration File

Hi all, where is the configuration file for EMS. Right now, if there is a disk failure, we get multiple alerts via nextell paging and I would like to see if its possible to change it to where we only get paged once and then again only after certain time. Not get duplicate paging. Hope this makes sense. Thanks and points will be assigned.

Re: EMS Configuration File

When EMS detects a problem it usually catches it before the disk goes.

The reason you get multiple pages is because EMS checks on a regular basis.

You might want to include the EMS configuration file up here so someone can recommend changes.

Alternatively you can go into sam and configure EMS to check less frequently. I'd be careful though, because if the interval between checks is too long a disk could die and take a system with it during the interval.

EMS is kind of designed to keep pounding on your mailbox/pager whatever until you do something about the problem.

Re: EMS Configuration File

When EMS is first activated, it e-mails root with this info; you specifically want to look at the Monitoring Request Manager:

HP's EMS Hardware Monitoring has been installed on your system.

EMS Hardware Monitors were installed along with the Support Tools
Manager. Hardware monitoring gives you the ability to detect problems
with many of your system hardware resources. By providing immediate
detection and notification, hardware monitoring allows you to
quickly identify and correct problems - often before they impact
system operation.

By default, EMS HW Monitoring is enabled on your system. Also by default,
messages regarding major warnings, serious and critical events that
occur on hardware being monitored will be:
- Written to /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
- E-mailed to root

All events will be stored in /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log.

EMS HW Monitoring can be reconfigured using the Monitoring Request
Manager, /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig.

Complete information on using hardware monitoring is included in the
EMS Hardware Monitors User's Guide, which can be downloaded from
Hewlett-Packard's external web site at http://docs.hp.com/hpux/diag/.
