EMS Event Notification Question

I have an autochanger on my DLT array that spit out a message to me.

Sep 6 13:09:50 hp9000 EMS [2390]: ------ EMS Event Notification ------ Value: "MAJORWARNING (3)" for Resource: "/storage/events/ta
pes/SCSI_tape/8_8.6.0" (Threshold: >= " 3") Execute the following command to obtain event details: /opt/resmon/bin/resdata
-R 154927133 -r /storage/events/tapes/SCSI_tape/8_8.6.0 -n 156631041 -a

The library appears to be working okay, but I'm concerned about this message. I ran the command suggested and it basically gave more details about the situation and told me to have it serviced but to restart it in the interim. Should I have it serviced, or let it go? Is this error common?

Re: EMS Event Notification Question

It could simply be a slightly dodgy tape. If this was a one-off then I'd make a note of the tape but otherwise ignore it. I might consider trying to verify the tape with dd or the application which wrote it (if it supports this).

If it happened again during verification, I'd replace the tape with a new one.

Re: EMS Event Notification Question

Could be that the library was busy. Not a major concern unless you get multiple messages of this type in a short period of time. Check the validity of the backup media as well.

Thanks guys. Just what I thought. I'm always a little paranoid when it gives a "MAJORWARNING" message though. I'll make a note of it and keep an eye on it.
Sorry about the double post.

Re: EMS Event Notification Question

Scott,
This message comes when your system is booting. Is nothing to worry about, unless as Rick pointed out it becomes frequent while the server is operating.
