Emulex Print Server HP9000 L-Class Problem

I have an HP9000 L-class server.
I have an Okidata 395 set up on an Emulex print server that I need to add to my L-class server but have no idea how to do so. Can I do this with JetAdmin?

No. JetAdmin specifically comunicates interactively with the JetDirect card while the Emulex just provides lpr services. Add the printer using SAM as a remote printer. BUT, you must know what the internal name(s) of the Emulex card printer. This must come from the documentation. The printer name might be text or prn or raw. For example, there are two printers inside a JetDirect card: text and raw, and this allows printing Unix text files without the stairstep effect.

As to Bill say, define printer as remote with SAM. SAM create /etc/lp/interface/lp_name.
I have the same problem with TALLY printer.
I was made some changes in scrip lp_name,
replacing command rlp with ftp:
ftp -n -v -g IP_address printer_control_string
ftp -n -v -g IP_address file_to_print
Before send printer_control_string you can make some parsing to received options, and create appropriate string (cpi,lpi, page size ect.)
This way printer will be in control like HP printer defined by JetAdmin.

as stated, set the printer up as remote. be sure to name the print queue on HP the same as the print queue on the emulex. You can telnet to the emulex, or serial attach an ascii terminal to it and log in. Then do a "show queue" to see the current queue names on the print server. These are configurable, so you can change them. The documentation on the Emulex web site is quite thorough, I've used it at a previous job with good results.
