End of support for MC/SG ???

I just got the invoice for our HP support contracts and it says that the support period for MC/SG ends 2003.

Does it really mean HP is going to revoke the product ?
Another sign could be that it is not supported on HP-UX 11i

Re: End of support for MC/SG ???

I think you may have misread that. HP is dropping support for MC/SG 11.09 in 12/02. They're urging everyone to upgrade to 11.13 (which I believe is the latest version). There is no drop support date for 11.13 (yet).

Re: End of support for MC/SG ???

Which version of OS are you on and which version of MC/SG?
There are no plans to drop SG for the forseeable future, other than the following:

MC/ServiceGuard Version A.10.06 will be obsoleted after Dec 31, 2001. HP will not support A.10.06 and will not provide patches for defects beyond the Dec 31, 2001 date. Customers who wish to continue using MC/ServiceGuard on HP-UX 10.20 can upgrade from A.10.06 to A.10.12, which will continue to be supported.

Re: End of support for MC/SG ???

Hi Rainer,

Dropping support normally indicates that HP will not provide support or upgrades to that product, so at that point if you run into a problem your only solution would be to upgrade to a later version.

In order to avoid this problem its always a good idea to upgrade to a newer version much before the end of support date

Re: End of support for MC/SG ???

I suspect that only your particular version of MC/SG is being obsoleted. I attended several High Availabilty sessions at HPWorld last month and Bob Sauers made no mention of discontinuance of the product; in fact, quite the contrary.

Re: End of support for MC/SG ???

11.09 of ServiceGuard is teh current "platform" release of SG, until the availability of 11.13 by the end of this month.
If you read the release notes of an interim or functionality release, e.g. 11.12, you will see that once 11.13 is released, ther ewill be no further fixes for it, and you ar eadvised to upgrade to 11.13.
11.09 on the other hand will still be patched until at least mid 2002, and then given 6 months before the end of suport for tha tversion.
By then there will probably be a newer release as well ;-}

Hope that explains it.

Re: End of support for MC/SG ???

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, our local HP rep tells us that in the HP MC/SG 11.13 it mentions that 11.09 version of MC/SG will be drop supported in 12/30/02. The 11.13 version of MC/SG will be shipping on the Sept. 19th Application CDs.

Hope this helps.
